OUR FIREWOOD

Donovan’s Seasoned Dry Firewood
Our commitment to good wood burning hot for your home means it is seasoned. This means it has been felled and left to slow dry in log form for a minimum of two years, then split and dried for another year. For harder woods such as gum a felled period of 3 -5 years is required. There are few with the storage space, time and commitment to season wood with this age-old practice of retaining resins, reduce water to the required levels.

The requirement for seasoned dry firewood is classed as under 25% moisture content at the core, which means that the amount of water present in the wood is less than 25% of its volume. For Donovan’s our focus is 15 – 20% moisture content at the core.

Sustainably Sourced
Our commitment to the environment goes beyond providing our community a low emission firewood, we also take care to ensure our wood is sourced sustainably.

Donovan’s types of firewood
Firewood’s are ranked on their density or tightness of the fibres in the wood. Softer woods are great for getting the fire going but burn fast, meaning you will have to keep refuelling the fire. We advise our clients to start the fire with softer woods and then switch to a denser wood for long burning and constant heat.

We supply seasoned:
A good indicator that wood has been seasoned is it has no bark, which falls away during seasoning.

Plantation Pine - Soft density wood.

Old Man Pine – Medium density wood.
At 30 – 100 years old the wood fibres are a lot denser than plantation pine and produces more heat.

Macrocarpa - Medium density wood.
Burns slower and contains more energy.
Gum – Hardwood.
With its tight fibres it burns slow and puts out maximum heat.

Cosy Mix is our popular mix, a combination of Old Man Pine, Macrocarpa and Gum.
We can quickly and easily determine the best wood for your firebox and heating requirements.
